Frequently asked questions
What facilities are on site?
We have a catering van serving hot and cold drinks and snacks; so cups of tea and coffee, bacon baps and burgers are in plentiful supply! We also have a portaloo.
Do I need any special equipment?
No, if you have your own air rifle then bring it along. Otherwise we have an AirArms S200 and an S400 precharged air rifle available for loan in .177 calibre. Club gun hire is just £5 per shoot and includes 100 pellets.
What if I've only got an old air rifle?
Some of our members have shot the competitions with vintage air rifles over 100 years old with no telescopic sights, so there really is no restriction on what you can use as long as it is not FAC rated. One of our members still uses a BSA Airsporter in regular competitions, so you don’t need to spend umpteen ££££ to come and join in the fun.
If you decide you want to buy a new rifle or telescopic sight then you'll see plenty of variety in use at our shoots, and the members will be happy to talk to you about them and let you try theirs out. -See our "Buyers guide; getting started" page for more helpful tips.
What about clothing?
Warm waterproofing clothing and footwear (particularly in Winter) is a must as it can be quite damp and muddy underfoot. Most members are wearing government surplus “Camo” clothing as this is easily obtained from Army surplus stores and very cheap! Jackets and trousers can be bought for £5- £20, are hard wearing, warm and don’t mind getting covered in mud. Don’t feel you must wear this though, if you have an old pair of jeans and waterproof jacket you’ll fit in fine. –You will however be easier to see if someone starts taking competition photographs!

What’s the difference between HFT and FT (Field Target) ?
Essentially the differences are the shooting positions and available adjustments to your telescopic sights.
In FT, competitors are allowed to shoot from a sitting position and make adjustments to their sights in order to gauge the target distance.
In HFT competitors may not shoot from a sitting position and once the first shot has been taken the sights cannot be adjusted.
Accepted positions for shooting in HFT are;
Prone (lying down)
